The Paramount

Went for the Ala Carte dinner buffet at The Paramount awhile ago. Apparently the Paramount Restaurant is opened by Tung Lok group and it has been in operation for more than 15 years! This restaurant is famous for it's fresh seafood and succulent cantonese food fare.

We went to the restaurant at 8.00pm and were surprised to see that it was almost full house.
I'm glad that we had made a reservation prior. So i would recommend everybody to do the same before visiting.

Not much of an ambience to talk about, but i find that the restaurant is particularly noisy. Hardly surprising given the amount of people there. Service was also quite slow due to the high patronage however the staff are friendly and relatively efficient.

Damage is $33.80++ per pax for a minimum of 4 persons. Some of the dishes are of limited portion whereby you can only order once, while other dishes are of unlimited servings.

Beijing Roast Duck (Limited to 2 slices per person)

Sad to say, i have tasted much better Beijing Duck elsewhere. This dish was supposed to be one of the famous dish but it was really disappointing. The duck meat is cold, skin is not crispy at all, and the sauce is too sweet.

Barbequed Combination

A combination of roast pork (char-siew), duck and chicken. This is a much nicer dish than the Beijing Duck. The duck meat is really tasty, full of juice and the skin is crispy. I particularly adore their sweet sauce which goes with this dish. The chicken is also very tender and full of flavour. Nothing much to comment about the char-siew though, its of normal standard, just a little too tough. I am quite impressed with this dish. Shiok!

Sweet and Sour Pork

A little bit too sour for me, but the girlfriend thinks that it is okay. The pork are deep fried before hand and then stir fried again with the sauce and the other fruity ingredients. Relatively tasty, but nothing special. The only plus point for me is that this dish is served piping hot!

Deep Fried Prawn with Cereal (Limited to 100grams per person)

Easily the worst dish of the night. Literally tasteless and yucks! Now i know why this dish is limited to 100grams per person, it is because nobody wants more! Nevertheless i have the admit the prawn is really fresh, but otherwise, tasteless. The chef could certainly do with more seasoning to improve this dish.

Steamed Tilapia in Hong Kong-style

Only 3 words to describe this dish : Fresh, Swee, Shiok!
Blissful combination of fresh fish meat with light soya sauce. And the best thing is, you can order this as many times as you like!

Steamed Beancurd with Scallops

The girlfriend's favourite dish of the night. Good combination of fresh, yummy scallop with fresh tofu! The girlfriend thought that the tofu is really fresh, but i cant taste any difference. The sauce is really tasty as well and i particularly love the addition of fried mini onions to the dish. Impressive.

Fried Beef Cubes with Black Pepper Sauce and Potato

Does anybody think that this dish looks like the fried carrot cake (chai tao kuey) easily available in hawker centres? The food presentation is in total contrast to the taste! The beef is really full of flavour and very tender. Very tasty! Right amount of black pepper were added, not too spicy! Simply perfect. The girlfriend loves the potato though. We had a fun time trying to distinguish the potato from the beef, they basically look the same.

Buddha Jumps Over the Wall (Limited to 1 serving per person)

The best dish of the night in my opinion. Made of expensive and fresh ingredients such as abalone, sea cucumber, scallops and sharks' fin. This soup dish gives out a really rich taste, very very flavourful. I simply love the herbal soup which i normally avoid in any other places. The soup is actually sweet and really tasty. Excellent!

Red Bean Pancake

With everybody bursting full, we ordered fried red bean pancake as dessert. Nothing spectacular but this is a dish which is not easily available. the bean paste is not too sweet and i like the combination of the sesame and the bean paste. Served hot and crunchy. Decent stuff.
